The DH House is a special affordable budget house for a retired couple in Taiwan.
The site is in the inside of Taiwan, on the top of a mountain in between two valleys. A very complex and sloped plot with the requirement of not making big land modifications. Astonishing views of the valleys, privacy from the public road and orientation (very important in hot Taiwan´s weather) are the main site factors.
Building ways, there are two main factors that shape the project: The technical capacities of the workers in the area, always having to simplify the design to ensure they can execute the project; And the tough access to the site for big construction vehicles, choosing a metal structure as the optimum construction method due to simple transportation to site.
The project is formed by a 5m x 16m volume with a North – South orientation that flies over the terrain, creating a parking/terrace covered space.
On the North side, a big glassed area covered from the sun, gives a full panoramic view of the valley with a total privacy to the master bedroom and bathroom.
On the South side, with the views of the second valley and closer to the public road, are placed the public areas of the house.
The whole volume has a double pitched roof without a drainage channel, that is very helpful during typhoons and give the volume a more solid appearance.
Material way the façade and the room are covered with the same standing seam metal system, only changing this system in the inside of the eaves for a more rough metal finish.
